Tight end John Samuel Shenker is back in the NFL, and it’s not with the Las Vegas Raiders this time.
The Auburn alumni was signed by the Arizona Cardinals to their practice squad on Wednesday as part of a series of personnel changes involving tight ends.
Additionally, on Wednesday, the Cardinals acquired tight end Travis Vokolek from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad and placed tight end Geoff Swaim on injured reserve.
Shenker was waived at the end of the preseason when Las Vegas cut its active roster to the 53 players allowed for the regular season. Shenker was signed by the Raiders as an undrafted rookie in May.
Shenker was quickly added back to the Raiders practice squad, though.
Shenker was released by Las Vegas on October 5 after spending the first four weeks of the season on the practice squad.
Shenker was re-signed by the Raiders to the practice squad on October 18. But on October 24, he was freed once more.
Shenker played in 62 games over his five years at Auburn, setting a school record. He also became the Tigers’ all-time leader in tight end catches with 68, good for 779 yards and three touchdowns.
