Following consecutive losses in League One, Wanderers’ urgency to overcome Leyton Orient has increased, according to Josh Sheehan.
The Wales international was given a one-game suspension for the dismal performance against Bristol Rovers last Saturday, so he was forced to watch from the stands.
He is back in the mix against the O’s, where Bolton will try to right the ship in front of an additional 20,000 or more fans at Toughsheet Stadium.
Regarding the recent losses, he remarked, “I couldn’t tell you how or why it has happened, but I think it has been more about us not playing to our best rather than us being outplayed or out-fought.”
“Over the last two games, we haven’t played to anywhere near our greatest abilities. If we can return to our former performance standards, I think we will be okay.
“There could be a little bit more pressure now. However, I believe that we are under a lot of pressure to perform well at home since our record at home is among the best in the league.
“Teams will always perceive it as a cup final type of atmosphere because it’s a big stadium with lots of home fans.” Because the teams around us are winning, we realize that every game is a pressure game and that we must maintain our momentum as well.
Against Orient, Ricardo Santos will be banned, giving him an advantage behind the dugout that Sheehan did not have.
“To be honest, it can be very frustrating to watch if you feel like you should be involved or can be involved,” he remarked. “But all you need to do, in my opinion, is stand by the lads and be in the dressing room.
Rico will be unhappy, I know, but it was an error. We’re all behind him.
Being the last guy on the field, he is aware that mistakes might have serious consequences. But he will return without any issues.
If Sheehan’s team makes it beyond the play-offs, they may have the opportunity to compete in the European Championships alongside Wales in 2024.
He is enthusiastic about what lies ahead and believes that Bolton’s playing style has benefited him on the international front.
He remarked, “I feel like I am at the right club and the right team right now. Sometimes you have to be at the right team.” “I feel like I grew up at Swansea with the way we want to play and the way the gaffer sees the game.” I believe that everything came together for me to be here, and hopefully, together, we can continue in the direction that we want to go.
Some of the lads that play for Premier League teams play the way we do. I return there because I feel at ease and like myself there. I trust myself to go to the ball quickly in any situation, even when players are around. We certainly play more than some of the clubs further up in the divisions, so I think our style of play does assist.
Sheehan, who was previously on the outskirts of the Welsh team, is keen to make sure his club form provides him the greatest opportunity of being selected after missing out on the World Cup in 2022.
“It was discouraging because I had gotten off to a good start that season and the injury kind of put a halt to things,” he remarked. “Since there is such a large gap, I don’t really have my attention on the Euros; I believe the playoffs begin in March.” My goal is to simply keep winning here and to perform at the highest possible level; everything else will work itself out. As long as I am succeeding here, I don’t care what occurs there.
