Burnley injury update ahead of Boxing Day encounter against Liverpool

Since taking a knock during the 1-1 draw with Brighton earlier this month, the winger has not played for the Clarets.

Though Gudmundsson, 33, was left out of Burnley’s matchday squad, manager Vincent Kompany was hoping to see him back at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Kompany said that he would return for the Boxing Day match against Liverpool, and Hjalmar Ekdal, who has also been sidelined since the match against Brighton, might possibly play.

“I don’t think we had any issues against Fulham,” Kompany said in response to a question regarding player availability for the Liverpool encounter. We’re hoping that several guys similar to Gudmundsson will be included in the team.

It won’t take too long with Ekdal, but I’m not sure which players will be accessible at this time. We’ll see.

Aaron Ramsey and Jack Cork are not expected to play, and Luca Koleosho has been out for a while.

In addition, Lyle Foster, who earned his first start since October in Saturday’s 2-0 victory against Fulham, is still managed by the Clarets in terms of playing time.

Kompany remarked, “I kept checking.”

It was turned last week. This week, he started and played for 55 or 60 minutes after coming on and playing for 45 minutes.

“I believe that taking him off was the right decision, but he did give us something.” He provided us with a threat that the squad really needed.
