Vincent Kompany and Unai Emery disagree on………

The manager of Aston Villa, Unai Emery, feels that because of the higher danger of injuries, ideas for more competitions, such as the recently proposed European Super League format, shouldn’t move forward. Meanwhile, Vincent Kompany, the manager of Burnley, believes that adding extra games is a wonderful idea—but only if done properly.

This month saw the introduction of a contentious new ESL proposal that prompted many teams, even those most likely to receive an invitation, to voice their opposition. The idea was to create a league system with 64 men’s clubs and 32 women’s clubs in several tiers to compete with UEFA events.

After Villa’s 3-2 victory against Burnley, managers have been relatively silent, although neither Emery nor Kompany backed down when questioned.

It’s challenging. There are much too many games available for the players. It’s possible that they will sustain injuries. I am able to express my viewpoint. I believe that it’s challenging for the guys. Many teams may have more injured players than usual, according to Emery.

This admission follows an initial reaction from the three-time UEFA Europa League winner as he was a little more blasé a week or so ago. “I don’t know how I can respond about it because my ‘Super League’ is the Premier League,” Emery said on December 21

Not only was the new ESL Manifesto announced recently, but so was an expanded Champions League and a bigger Club World Cup. It is unlikely that Burnley will ever be involved in these competitions if they happen, but Kompany still carries more than enough weight behind his words.

The ex-captain of Manchester City, who won the title of the Premier League four times, said: andquot;I was a member of FIFPro, a player and the head of the federation, not long ago. My opinion is really clear. I think it’s good for the game – I’m not against more games. I think you just have to limit the number of games each player can play.andquot;
