Another Departure From Alabaman Crimson Tide

It became official on Thursday morning with the departure of another anticipated Alabaman. Chris Braswell, an outside linebacker for the Crimson Tide, joined Dallas Turner and JC Latham in declaring for the NFL Draft.

This season, Braswell excelled in his expanded role beside Turner and in lieu of Will Anderson Jr. With eight sacks to lose offenses 57 yards, Braswell was UA’s second-leading rusher on the team after Turner. At Mississippi State, he also forced three fumbles, blocked one punt, and had a pick-six.

“I’ve accomplished my main objectives at UA—winning a national title and, most importantly, graduating. Together the journey, I’ve created amazing memories and enduring relationships. But now is the right moment for me to start a new chapter,” Braswell posted to Instagram.

After Turner and UCLA’s Laitau Latu, ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Braswell as the third-best outside linebacker in the class. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and 255 pounds, Braswell gained experience on the field as he started to see more and more action after joining as a five-star recruit from Saint Frances (Maryland) Academy. Braswell recorded 76 total tackles in 40 games during his career, including 17 for a loss. 11 sacks were posted by him.

Before 2024, Alabama’s pass rush and outside linebacker group is getting smaller. Tim Smith (two sacks, 31 tackles) and defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe (seven sacks) could possibly be traded in addition to Turner and Braswell. Quandarrius Robinson, the most seasoned outside linebacker in Alabama, is expected to make a comeback (2023) with 1.5 sacks.
On November 13, Saban declared, “Bras is a really good competitor and a hard worker.” Puts in a lot of effort to do it properly in practice. Many of the men that play outside linebacker for us, in my opinion, don’t have any background or experience playing standing up. In high school, many of them play with their hands in the dirt. How do you rush off the edge when you’re standing up as opposed to in a three-point stance, therefore, given the concept of standing up and playing and dropping some?
Additionally, I believe that provides access to a wealth of information on the game, coverage, and related topics. Furthermore, I believe that Bras’ physical improvement is a direct result of his dedication to becoming a better player. However, I believe that’s where he truly has a far, far greater mental understanding of everything you have to do to play that position.
