During the previous season, Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles made a move that might go down in NFL history: he traded the 2023 No. 1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers. Thanks to the terrible Panthers season, that trade gave the Bears the #1 pick once more in the 2024 NFL Draft. Now, Poles must decide what to do. Does he select a quarterback at No. 1 and arrange a deal for Justin Field? Does he select choices Nos. 1 and 9 and hold onto Fields? Alternatively, does he execute the best plan and trade the first pick to draft a quarterback later in the top 10?
For three reasons, the Bears need to trade the top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in order to select a quarterback early. First, a lot of quarterbacks are selected in this round. The second is a result of Justin Fields’ contract. Three is as a result of what the pick might yield.
