When the NBA schedule was released in August, a lot of Celtics supporters snatched up tickets for the Grizzlies game so they could watch Smart play his old team at TD Garden for the first time. On January 11, 2024, posted about his injury on Smart, seemingly shattering their aspirations.

Since the Celtics selected Smart with the sixth overall choice in the 2014 NBA Draft, he has been the team’s mainstay. With his constant pursuit of lost balls and willingness to lead, Smart quickly won over fans. Although they were sad to see him go, Celtics supporters were thrilled to have him back.
When the Grizzlies visit Boston, Smart will be inside the building but not on the floor, according to Boston Globe reporter Gary Washburn.
On Wednesday, January 24, Washburn wrote on X, “Marcus Smart tells me he’ll be in Boston for the #Grizzlies game at TD Garden on Feb. 4, even though he’s still recovering from a right ring finger injury and won’t play.”
