Chelsea have angered Premier League rival with attempts to sign £45,000-a-week player, not Caicedo

Chelsea have annoyed Crystal Palace with their attempts to sign Michael Olise – although the south Londoners are keen to take Lewis Hall on loan.

So, what is going on between Chelsea and Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it is said that those at Selhurst Park are not happy about the way in which Chelsea have approached the £45,000-a-week Olise this summer.

A story from RMC Sport in France claims that Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with the Crystal Palace No.7 ahead of his potential move to Stamford Bridge.

However, the Blues haven’t agreed a fee with Crystal Palace yet, which suggests Chelsea went straight to Olise rather than ask the Eagles for permission.

Whatever the finer details may be, the Daily Mail are confident that Crystal Palace are frustrated with those at Stamford Bridge for their behaviour.

Roy Hodgson’s side cannot simply give Chelsea the cold shoulder – however – as they are hoping to take Hall on loan for the 2023/24 campaign.

Chelsea must keep Crystal Palace happy

In our view, Chelsea need to keep Crystal Palace onside – a strong relationship has been created between both sides over the years, and it usually benefits the Blues.

Hodgson even confirmed that back in January 2019, when Chelsea opted to loan Michy Batshuayi to Crystal Palace instead of Tottenham or West Ham, as seen in the Independent.

For example, Crystal Palace are superb at developing Chelsea’s young talent.

The Eagles first took Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan in the 2017/18 campaign, and helped him make Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2018 World Cup.

He then went on to become an effective first-team option for Chelsea, as did Conor Gallagher.

The 23-year-old won his first England caps while on loan at Crystal Palace in the 2021/22 campaign, also winning the club’s Player of the Season award before returning to Stamford Bridge as a £50m asset.

There is clearly value in maintaining the relationship with Crystal Palace, so Chelsea must ensure they negotiate sensibly.
