Just one point needed

We defeated Accrington 3-1 this afternoon at Gawthorpe, meaning we just need one point from our last group match against Wrexham to get to the Central League Cup semifinals this season.

After winning our opening games, Accrington and we started the match tied on points. However, after this victory, we now have a two-point advantage with a goal differential that is four better than Accrington’s.

Tommy McDermott, a midfielder, scored our opening two goals. He scored the first goal of the game in the first half by heading in a cross from Brad Grant from close range. He then quickly added his second goal, hitting the bottom corner of the net.

Anjola Popoola’s header gave Accrington a one-goal lead just after the hour mark, but Tom Tweedy (pictured), who in as a substitute, added our third goal shortly after by poking home a loose ball in the box.

The Wrexham game, which is currently awaiting confirmation of its location, is in four weeks. We will win the group and go to the last four if we receive a point from the match.
