It has been announced that the sixty-year-old will take over as the club’s new owner and minority shareholder with immediate effect. Garlick has also owned St. Joseph’s, a team based in Gibraltar, since 2022. He joined the Turf Moor board in 2006 and rose to the position of chairman in 2012. During Sean Dyche’s successful tenure, the Clarets qualified for the Europa League and won two promotions to the Premier League. Present Antequera president Angel Gonzalez thinks this could be the beginning of a “new era” for the Andalusian-based team.
“We are discussing an individual who assumed leadership of his native team, steadily propelled them to the Premier League, and guaranteed them a spot in the Europa League,” he declared.
“I think having Mike as the primary owner of Antequera was the appropriate choice. A brand-new age has arrived.”
After ALK Capital acquired the company in 2020, Garlick and previous co-chairman John Banaszkiewicz initially stayed on the Burnley board.
But in June 2023, both of them lost their positions as directors.
Garlick’s whole attention is now on managing gradual progress with his new Spanish team.
“My goal is to support the club’s development rather than instigate a revolution,” he stated, as cited by the Malaga-based newspaper SUR.

“In the future, I want to carry on Angel’s project and see it through to its pinnacle.
“We’ll approach things season by season, trying to improve every time. We’re not going to concentrate on getting promoted repeatedly.”
Garlick said, “Why not?” in response to a question regarding his optimism about his new club’s ability to duplicate Burnley’s achievements.
For a long time, Garlick has wanted to play Spanish football, especially in the south, close to his home in Marbella.
“I felt that in Antequera, where football is a way of life, I could accomplish something similar to Burnley,” he continued.
A football team created in 1992, Antequera is currently ranked eighth in Group 2 of the Primera Federacion. They play their football in the 6,000-seat El Mauli stadium.
