Great news for Texas Longhorns

In April, how many Texas Longhorns players will hear their names called in the NFL Draft’s first round? At least two, according to one mock draft. Both receiver Adonai Mitchell and defensive tackle Byron Murphy were chosen in the top 32 picks in the most recent mock draft by NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah.

Murphy was predicted to be picked by the Seattle Seahawks with the 16th overall pick, beating out other defensive tackles. Murphy would be a good complement on the interior defensive line, even if the Seahawks are able to work out a contract with Leonard Williams, who is a free agency.

NFL.com After winning back-to-back crowns with Georgia, Mitchell spent a season on the Forty Acres. He is anticipated to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ top long-term goal in lieu of Mike Evans. The power forward-like receiver is chosen by the Bucs as a possible replacement for Mike Evans, who is eligible to sign a free agent contract. Play the footage of Mitchell’s performance against Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinal to see what he is capable of.

Next week’s NFL Scouting Combine ought to provide a clearer picture of where players end up over the course of the three days. Up to five Longhorns, including defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat, tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, and receiver Xavier Worthy, were selected in the first mock draft round since the end of the season. Murphy believes he is the only Longhorn lock who will hear his name called in the selection process on Thursday night. The junior defensive back recorded a career-high 29 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and seven quarterback hurries in the previous campaign.

Murphy is more than just explosive runs versus the run. As a red-zone receiving threat, the 365-pound player scored two offensive touchdowns, one of which came against the Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal. The Big 12 Newcomer of the Year winner Mitchell, with a more pass-heavy system under Quinn Ewers’ direction, was finally able to demonstrate his potential.

The 6-1 target, even as Worthy’s backup, had the appearance of a downfield weapon on the outside. Mitchell hauled in a career-high 55 passes for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 14 games. He made playoff history by becoming the first player to score a touchdown in five CFP contests, two of which occurred in Georgia’s back-to-back national title drives.
