Cardiff City’s Aaron Ramsey will be out until the end of March after suffering an injury to his calf which is set to rule him out of Wales’ crucial Euro 2024 play-off matches.
Ramsey was out for five months with a knee problem he suffered after Cardiff City’s win over Swansea in the South Wales derby. He made a comeback just over a week ago with an appearance off the bench against Preston North End, before a cameo at West Brom in midweek.
The Wales captain was missing for the club’s game at Norwich City last Saturday with a calf injury, which Bluebirds boss Erol Bulut said would rule him out for a week or so. However, Bulut has now revealed the severity of the issue.
With Ramsey, the situation, what we spoke last time, I got a report it was a strain, but yesterday I heard it was not a strain on the muscle, it was on the tendon,” Bulut said. “He will be available, maybe the end of March.
Asked if he is likely to be out of the Wales game, Bulut replied: “Yes. This is also disappointing for us and for Ramsey. I will support him every way I can. I know how he’s feeling. It’s not easy for a player to be out for five months, come back, play and get injured from nearly nothing.
“[The medical department] told me four to six weeks. I would be delighted when he [is back], it would also be good for us, but we’ll have to see.”
