Chiefs Predicted to Make ‘Bold’ Move to Land $82.5 Million WR

The Kansas City Chiefs are jubilant following their consecutive Super Bowl victories. But the Chiefs need to enhance at wide receiver if they want to have a real chance to go for a three-peat.

The NFL’s decision to raise the salary cap to $255.4 million gives Kansas City greater leeway to execute a “bold” move.According to ESPN expert Aaron Schatz, the Chiefs will sign Mike Evans, one of the most sought-after pending free agents.

The Chiefs’ wide receivers were a letdown, as everyone knows, but it’s difficult to criticize a team that just won the Super Bowl twice in a row, Schatz said. In terms of passes dropped, the Chiefs’ receivers led the league going into the postseason.

“Begin with the greatest player available, who also happens to own a ring already. Evans has ten consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards and finished 23rd in DVOA among eligible wide receivers last season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Evans, the seventh overall choice in the 2014 NFL Draft, to a five-year, $82.5 million contract. However, that deal expired this past season. Evans has played his whole career in a Tampa Bay, but according to Aaron Schultz of Bleacher Report, the two sides are still “far apart” when it comes to talking extensions. The Bucs’ failure to reach a contract by February 19 resulted in them taking on $7.4 million in dead money.

“He’s money in the red zone, with 13 touchdowns last season,” Schatz continued. “Imagine Patrick Mahomes throwing to Evans on one side with Rashee Rice on the other side and Travis Kelce in the middle. It’s enough for Chiefs Kingdom to already start planning another celebration.”
