Steven Schumacher facing Stoke Citys’ worst nightmare

Stoke City lost at Cardiff City on Saturday, moving them into the Championship relegation zone with just 12 league games left.

The Potters lost for the sixth time in their previous seven league games, and unless they make some major changes, they run the risk of finishing outside the Championship.

Championship table – 26/02/2024
Position Club P GD Pts
19th Huddersfield Town 34 -15 37
20th Millwall 34 -14 36
21st QPR 34 -13 35
22nd Stoke City 34 -17 35
23rd Sheffield Wednesday 34 -25 32
24th Rotherham United 34 -36 19

The club was a well-established Premier League team before to their relegation in 2018, therefore being demoted to League One would be a complete catastrophe for them.

March appears to be a challenging month for Steven Schumacher’s team as the Potters face several teams in the top half of the Championship standings and run the risk of being relegated to the bottom.

It was thought that the club made a wise choice in December when it brought in Steven Schumacher from Plymouth Argyle, moving away from the club’s recent practice of hiring experienced managers, which hasn’t always worked out.

He arrived at The bet365 Stadium with a solid reputation as a youthful manager who had assisted Plymouth in winning promotion, but like so many managers before him, things haven’t quite clicked at the stadium.

When he was appointed, the team was three points above the relegation zone in 19th place in the league. However, under his leadership, the team has fallen in the standings and is now in the relegation zone for the first time this season.

Perhaps the club needs a wake-up call and is now in the relegation zone, or it could damage an already fragile dressing room and have a negative effect on the squad.
