Since joining from Bristol Rovers in January, the new signing has only made two starts, with the bulk of his games coming off the bench.
Ian Evatt thinks the Welsh striker can affect Bolton’s chances of promotion, but he won’t reach his full potential until after the preseason and extra training ground time.
Evatt hasn’t had much time to work with his team lately due to Wanderers’ busy schedule, but he has already observed encouraging signals that Collins will establish his value.
“This is not a short-term signing, this is one for the long term,” he remarked when we signed Aaron. “Bringing him in was a great opportunity, and I believe the biggest benefit will come next season.”
Naturally, he must contribute this season, but what we do here is very different from what he was accustomed to at Bristol Rovers.
“He doesn’t require the extra strain. Aaron should improve for the second season, as all of the guys we have signed have done so after a preseason.
“For now, as much as we need can, get him up to speed. With the way the fixture list is, it is challenging to get time on the grass, get the coaching detail into him.
“Once we do, I think we will see him fly. He is a really talented player, a good person, he has fit into the group really well, but at the moment he is still in that integration period.”
Carlos Mendes Gomes has pushed his way to a regular start since returning from international duty with Guinea Bissau at the African Cup of Nations.
The former Luton Town player, who also signed a summer contract worth a six-figure sum of money, has since made his peace and accepted the knowledge Evatt believes he needs to succeed on the club.
“We have been following Carlos for a while, so it is not surprising to me,” he remarked. “He is a really good player.” “He had a very rough start to his existence here due to an injury that was fairly serious and then missing the AFCON.
“At this point, he is completely informed about our needs and requirements.”
