Bolton loan spell takes turn for the worse

After being moved out on loan once more by Liverpool at the end of January in quest of playing time, the former Dons star has not made an appearance for Bolton Wanderers since the end of February.

Liverpool, Calvin Ramsay’s parent club, is concerned that he has once again been left out of the Bolton Wanderers roster.

The former Dons star had thought that his loan transfer to Lancashire at the end of January would be a fresh start after a difficult 18 months due to injury.

For £4.5 million in July 2022, Ramsay went from Aberdeen to Liverpool. However, the 20-year-old full back has struggled with injuries, playing in just two first team games at Anfield the previous season and two more on loan at Preston in the first half of this one.

Sadly, Ramsay’s situation at Bolton, who are tied for second place in England’s third division and are attempting to return to the Championship after a four-year absence, hasn’t gotten any better.

Playing in four of the EFL League One team’s first six games after signing, Ramsay enjoyed a strong start. He did not, however, play the entire ninety minutes in either of these games, according to the Daily Record.

The former Pittodrie young player has now missed the last four games due to injury to his team by manager Ian Evatt. The club has not stated why he was left out or whether his injury has returned.

The defender, who played just one season for Aberdeen’s first team in 2021–2022, earned the SFWA Young Player of the Year, demonstrating his obvious talent. However, his talent and chances of succeeding at Liverpool are beginning to be affected by his lack of consistent playing time.

A chance to shine has been presented to another young player Connor Bradley by the injury sustained by Anfield star Trent Alexander-Arnold. Bradley, who enjoyed a fruitful season-long loan at Bolton, has left a lasting impression on departing manager Jurgen Klopp.

In his debut Premier League game, Bradley scored a spectacular goal against Chelsea. The following month, at Wembley, Liverpool defeated the same team 1-0 to win the Carabao Cup.

In light of Alexander-Arnold’s anticipated permanent shift to midfield, Bradley may establish himself as the team’s starting right back for many years to come, casting doubt on Ramsay’s future.
