Three Players Who Could Solve The Quarterback Issues For The Browns

The Cleveland Browns Could Include Some Veteran Quarterbacks in Their Quarterback Room to Provide Deshaun Watson With Backup Coverage.

The Cleveland Browns experienced a quarterback carousel all season long and finished with an 11-6 record, an early playoff exit. In 2023, five distinct players began games for the orange and brown teams. The competition for the backup quarterback spot in the quarterback room will intensify with the return of quarterback Deshaun Watson from injury.

The Browns have been connected to a number of players, including some well-known names. A new face might walk into the room with a general manager who isn’t hesitant to take initiative. These three players might start under center as the backup quarterback even though the season is still many months away.

3 Players Who Could Improve the Browns Quarterback Room

Jacoby Brissett Back In The Browns Quarterback Room

The former Cleveland Browns starter played in 16 games in 2022 and would be great for the quarterback room. He completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,608 passing yards with the Browns. Brissett also threw 12 passing touchdowns with six interceptions.

This past season he featured in just three games for the Washington Commanders. He had 224 passing yards with three passing touchdowns and zero interceptions in limited snaps. Before Cleveland and Washington, he played for three other franchises.

Brissett began his professional career with the Patriots, but also only played in three games. Brissett then became a member of the Colts quarterback room, where he spent four seasons. He played in 46 games and threw 31 passing touchdowns with 13 interceptions, with most of his action coming in 2017 and 2019.

Brisett’s journey took him to Miami in 2021 where he played in 11 games as a Dolphin. His five teams in eight seasons have shown he is a capable backup and fill-in starter. Brissett has a great relationship with Watson from their time in 2022. A better money deal may see him go elsewhere, but the idea of a reunion is there for Brissett.

Joshua Dobbs

Dobbs is another potential member of the Browns quarterback room in 2024. Like Brissett, he has played for a lot of teams in a short time. Dobbs made his debut in 2018, and has played in 21 games over four seasons for four teams.

Additionally, he was recently a member of the Browns, but was traded to Arizona shortly before the season. He played in eight games before a move sent him to Minnesota. Dobbs was in a quarterback room carousel there as well, playing in five games.

He has shown great flashes and would reunite with Watson in Cleveland if given the opportunity. Dobbs as a cheaper option could be the reunion the Browns need after spending his last two springs in Cleveland.

Joe Flacco Staying in the Quarterback Room

The hero for the Browns in 2023 may be back for round two. The former Ravens quarterback and rival of the Browns played in five games plus a postseason game last season. In five regular season games Flacco had 1,616 passing yards and 13 passing touchdowns with eight interceptions.

The veteran spent 11 seasons as a Raven and has played for four teams total in his career. He has thrown for nearly 44,000 passing yards, 245 passing touchdowns, and 155 interceptions in his career.

Flacco has verbally praised Cleveland and said he would love to return. All three options are in the mind of Cleveland’s fans and staff, and Flacco would be the ideal backup behind Watson in the 2024 season.
