Former Stoke City, Aston Villa, York City, Hull City, and York City player resigns from coaching position

Martin Carruthers, a former forward for York City and Hull City, has left his position as manager of non-league team Matlock Town.

“I want to place on record my thanks and the club’s thanks to everyone involved for his hard work during his tenure,” Matlock chairman Jay Beaumont stated. “Last season, we made it through to the play-offs against all odds, and that was down to Martin, Wayne, and his staff and players who were magnificent.” He’s been a terrific member of the club.
“I would also like to express my gratitude to Wayne [Hallcro, assistant manager], who is departing with Martin. We all really apologize that things haven’t worked out for them this season, and they are always welcome to visit our club.

Carruthers is a highly experienced individual who had a prosperous EFL career before descending the non-league ladder and hanging up his boots. In addition to playing for Hull and York, he was a representative of Aston Villa, Stoke City, and Peterborough United.

He was the former manager of Ilkeston Town and Basford United before taking over at Matlock.
