Knoxville third-grader makes national name for himself

WVLT – KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Win or learn is a philosophy that applies beyond the basketball court. For a father and son team in East Tennessee, the motto also describes their way of life.

“I adore participating in basketball games. It’s simply enjoyable. A 9-year-old basketball player named King Peace added, “And it teaches about life a lot.”

King Peace spends at least five hours a day at the downtown YMCA when he isn’t being homeschooled by his mother.

It’s a touch mind-blowing, as if we’re in the middle of a three-point shootout. He would most likely prevail. And that’s difficult because I play baseball, and I play it well,” King’s father, Penny Peace, remarked.

It pays like a full-time job yet only requires part-time work. He is ranked among the top 10 players in the nation by some scouting websites.

“He’s the best, according to dad,” Penny Peace remarked.

Even though King has won too many titles and championships to list, some moments—like the time a close victory served as a lesson—stand out more than others.

“By playing basketball, we learn how to succeed in life.” That’s the same kind of dedication needed to succeed on the court. His father added, “It will require the same commitment, attention, and hard work to succeed at it whether he wants to manage a business or do anything else in life.

Nor is King Peace restricting his dreams in any way. The third-grader mentioned that one day he might run his own basketball league.
