Zed Key intends to use his remaining eligibility somewhere other than Columbus, according to an announcement made today, following a season in which his playing time and possibilities vanished toward the end, along with the firing of Chris Holtmann. The Columbus Dispatch’s Adam Jardy revealed the initial news.
Over the course of four seasons, Key participated in 120 games, amassing 890 career points and 599 rebounds. Even though the 6-foot-8 senior from Long Island only had one year left of eligibility, he was honored on Ohio State’s Senior Day on March 3. When Chris Holtmann was fired, turnover was to be expected, but with Jake Diebler taking over as head coach, that expectation was somewhat allayed.
Key was a three-star recruit in the class of 2020. He was the No. 153 player in the country, the No. 23 center, and the fourth-highest-rated player in the state of New York that year. He was the lowest-rated commit in Ohio State’s 2020 class, with Meechie Johnson and Chris Holtmann both rated as four-star prospects.
