Vancouver FC Signs New Star Goalkeeper from……

Niko Giantsopolous, a former York United goalkeeper, has signed with Vancouver FC on a one-year contract that runs through 2024 with a 2025 option.

Giantsopolous was made public for the first time to season ticket holders the previous evening at the “Cherry Blossom” kit launch.

About joining his newest team, Giantsopoulos stated, “I am very excited to be continuing my career in the CPL with Vancouver.” In my own country, I have developed a successful career and collaborated with some of the top professionals in the industry. I’m excited to see what this new chance at VFC brings and am prepared to contribute my abilities to a fresh, interesting project.”

After Niko rejected several contract offers from York United, including his training assignment with Cavalry FC earlier this year, we had been following his off-season travels.

He comes from York United, where the 29-year-old played 55 games over three years as a member of his hometown team, following in the footsteps of Paris Gee.

“We are excited to have Niko join our team and provide depth, quality, and experience,” Vancouver FC head coach Afshin Ghotbi stated. “We think we have one of the best goalkeeping tandems in Canadian football right now with both Callum [Irving] and Niko covering our goal.”

Before, when Giantsopolous was benched in the Eagles’ 7-0 friendly victory over Fraser Valley All-Stars, he was seen working out with Callum Irving.

The eleventh offseason addition for Vancouver FC is now the seasoned CPL ‘keeper, as The Eagles get ready for their home opener in just over a week.

Giantsopolous appears to have been Vancouver’s final addition before a huge season in which they will aim for much more than just the playoffs. They have already made some significant acquisitions.
