Goalkeeper Kop Wanting To Be ‘Part Of The Journey’

The 25-year-old, who has spent her entire senior career in Amsterdam with Ajax, joins the Foxes ahead of their third season in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

“I’m so happy to be here,” she explained in her first interview with the Club. “It felt like home right away, and it feels like it’s just really close, and like a family. At first, I thought it was going to be rainy, but actually the sun is shining, so I was a bit surprised!

“I like to go with my gut and my gut feeling about this move was great. I want to have new impulses for my career, and I think this came at the right time. I talked to Willie [Kirk] and it felt good right away.”

Having just returned from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, after reaching the quarter-finals with the Netherlands, the ‘keeper believes her ambitions match that of Leicester, and that Filbert Way is the best place for her development.

Becoming the fourth new face to come through the door at Belvoir Drive, Kop reinforces the strength in that position at City, alongside Demi Lambourne and Janina Leitzig – who made her move to the Midlands permanent this summer.

She added: “I think the ambitions of the Club are great. That’s a big part for me; I want to work on that ambition too and be part of the journey.

“I hope that playing in the English league, it’s going to make me a more complete player, and I think that’s important. I want to help the team by bringing what I learnt at the national team, and bring it to Leicester City, I think that’s going to be important for me.”
