Vincent Kompany delivers perfect answer when questioned on Burnley’s style

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has no concerns over implementing his style on the Premier League stage.

The Clarets lost 3-0 to Manchester City on the opening night of the new league season, but Kompany took plenty of positives away from the Turf Moor clash against last season’s treble winners. Despite that, there have been question marks in the media about how Burnley’s style under Kompany will work out in the top flight.

The Belgian, though, is not worried. His impact at Burnley last season was remarkable, with a summer overhaul of the squad executed and completely new identity on the pitch implemented. Burnley stormed to the Championship title, playing an entertaining brand of football and collecting 101 points. In Kompany’s eyes, the challenge this season is not too dissimilar to last.

He told Mail Sport: “It’s a question that gets asked, but I think it’s focusing on the wrong point. I got told, especially going into the Champ last year, that we couldn’t do it the way we did it. And now I am getting told the same, so I think we have to do what we believe in and that will be us. It’s believing that this is the way we are going to be successful.”

Kompany added: “It’s a little bit like last year. There is always a first time and one year from now, everyone will say I’ve done a year in the Premier League. I will kind of do what I’ve always done: focus on the next game, avoid doubt, have belief and just be ready to improve and innovate where you have to. And make sure that, together, we’re always able to perform how we can.”
