Mariners place reliever on 15 day injured list

In a flurry of movements on Wednesday, the Seattle Mariners placed left-handed reliever Taylor Saucedo on the 15-day disabled list and brought up left-hander Kirby Snead.

In order to create space on the 40-man roster, Seattle also placed RHP Matt Brash on the 60-day IL, optioned rookie RHP Emerson Hancock to Triple-A Tacoma, and reinstated right-hander Eduard Bazardo from the 15-day IL.

Saucedo, 30, was injured in the eighth inning of Tuesday night’s game on a play at first base. He avoided serious injury and was diagnosed with a right knee hyperextension. Saucedo is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and a save in 14 relief appearances this season.

Snead’s first game will mark his Mariners debut. He’s 2-4 with a 5.20 ERA in 68 career relief appearances with Toronto and Oakland.

Bazardo began the season on the IL with a right rotator cuff strain. He made nine appearances with Seattle in 2023, going 0-0 with a 2.63 ERA.

Hancock, 24, has made seven starts with the big league club this season, going 3-3 with a 5.24 ERA. His three quality starts are tied for first among major league rookies, the team said.
