In this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News, the baseball team wins some recognition ahead of this week’s ACC Tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a young football player is removed from the squad.
Lemar Law no longer listed on football roster
Monday, sophomore offensive lineman Lemar Law was not listed on the Hokies football roster. The Virginia Beadh native from Green Run High School was a backup lineman from the Class of 2022 and with the transfer portal closed, it’s unclear what his next move is if does intend to leave Blacksburg.
His departure leaves Virginia Tech with the maximum 85 scholarship players after Miami transfer Kaleb Spencer committed to the Hokies Saturday night. A three-star recruit of high school, law picked Virginia Tech over Virginia, Maryland, Michigan, and others.
Baseball picks up ACC awards
Ahead of the ACC Tournament beginning Tuesday in Charlotte, some Virginia Tech baseball players picked up some ACC honors.
Ben Watson was named to the All-ACC Second Team after leading the conference in hitting with a .418 average and he has a 13-game hitting streak to close out the season. Outfielder Chris Cannizzaro and pitcher Brett Renfrow each were selected to the All-ACC Third Team. Cannizzaro had 62 hits, and 12 home runs, and finished the regular season with a .346 average. Renfrow was 6-3 this season as a true freshman with a 4.33 ERA and was also named to the All-Freshman team.
Paul Finebaum speaks about Dabo Swinney’s future
Over the last week, Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney has come under fire for comments he made about the transfer portal and Paul Finebaum of ESPN spoke about his future in charge of the Tigers.
“People that graduated from Clemson, people that are Clemson fans, they don’t think Dabo Swinney is going to be there a long time. When I say long time, I mean 3 to 5 years. I think his time is nearly up.”
