Throughout the 2023–24 season, AC Milan and Juventus faced off, with the Rossoneri emerging victorious in the Serie A standings, placing second by a margin of four points over the Bianconeri.
Milan was significantly behind crosstown rivals Inter Milan, who have emerged as the best team in Italian football, by about 20 points, thus they didn’t really consider their second-place finish a success.
Milan hopes to challenge for the championship in 2024–2025 under their new manager, and Juventus, who have replaced Max Allegri with Thiago Motta, the phenomenon from Bologna, share similar ambitions.
Both AC Milan and Juventus are putting significant emphasis on midfield upgrades. Teun Koopmeiners of Atalanta is the preferred midfield player for Juventus in Serie A, while Milan is considering Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana.
The Bianconeri have been working hard lately to finalize a trade involving defensive midfielder Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa, one of the biggest fish on the transfer market.
Now, a Turin-based publication called Tuttosport is reporting that AC Milan has joined Juventus in their pursuit of signing Douglas Luiz. According to the claim, FFP laws may force Douglas Luiz to leave Villa Park come June.
Many elite teams, notably Arsenal in England, are vying for Luiz’s services. He just finished an amazing season in which he helped Aston Villa qualify for the Champions League with nine goals and five assists.
Although it will be difficult for Milan to come up with the money that Luiz demands on the transfer market, Milan might make a difference if they make a competitive bid given that Juventus is currently making lowball bids.
Given that Milan is just two years removed from a Champions League semifinal, RedBird needs to demonstrate to the supporters that they are committed to making significant investments in order to compete at the highest level. For the Rossoneri, Luiz might be a significant step in that direction.
