Leeds United look to not be signing Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Nadiem Amiri despite the player flying to the city yesterday to discuss a move.
The final week of the transfer window is always going to be hectic no matter which club is involved, but for Leeds and Daniel Farke, it’s going to be incredibly busy.
An attacking midfielder is on the agenda for Leeds, but so many twists in the saga are proving frustrating with their prime target.
Nadiem Amiri to Leeds?
It seemed as though Leeds were heading towards another eye-catching agreement in the transfer market as the club agreed a fee with Bayer Leverkusen for attacking midfielder Nadiem Amiri – per Phil Hay.
Since then, it has been a patient wait to see if the player is keen on joining Leeds in the Championship, with that £5million fee being agreed on August 24.
What’s the latest?
Now, Sky Sports’ Marlon Irlbacher has reported that the player did in fact travel to Leeds on Monday for further talks over a move to the club before Friday’s deadline.
However, the talks appear to have broken down with the move now off as things stand:
“Nadiem Amiri was in Leeds on Monday for final talks with the club and to see everything there. According to Sky Sports Germany information, however, the player and club have not finally agreed on a cooperation. The deal is off after crazy back and forth.”
As good a signing as Amiri would be, the club have to be thinking about the bigger picture here, that he is wasting our time in the window.
We have a lot more to do than getting in just Amiri, so him stalling and getting cold feet should just be brushed off by the club – forget about signing him and go for someone else.
We can’t do much more than we already have, and there are other options out there for us, so move on.
