Ankle damage sidelines Josh Maja
Josh Maja, who scored for Albion in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Bristol City, has torn ankle ligaments and will be sidelined for about eight weeks, the club has announced.
At Ashton Gate, the 24-year-old was hurt in stoppage time in the second half.
Maja will start his recovery after taking some time off, and the club’s medical staff anticipates he will play again for the first team after the November international break.
Matt Phillips’ injury costs West Brom in their FA Cup victory.
Due to Phillips’ outstanding recent form and the crucial match at Burnley on Friday night, the loss is a major blow to the Baggies and head coach Carlos Corberan.
Phillips, 31, had a quadriceps muscle injury in his right leg. After being left off the starting lineup of a rotational side against the Spireites, the winger was introduced on the hour.
Under Corberan, he has played frequently and given several excellent performances. Corberan confessed he “hates” injuries to his players, and the news comes as a tremendous blow with a major game later this week. Tomorrow’s additional assessment will reveal the extent of the damage.
With Kenneth Zohore missing, Karlan Grant injured, Brandon Thomas-Asante suspended, and Daryl Dike taking a night off, Phillips adds to a growing list of worries in the forward areas.
The nicest aspect of the evening, according to Corberan, was the outcome; the worst aspect was Phillips’ injury. “In some moments we played well, in other moments we were poor,” he added.
“He was experiencing some discomfort in his quadriceps, which prevented him from continuing the game.
