After Aston Villa’s performance against Chelsea, Ian Wright agrees with Dean Smith on Ezri Konsa.

Birmingham Aston Villa newsLive commentary from Gary Lineker and Micah Richards on the triumph over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Gary Lineker praised Aston Villa’s “terrific” Premier League victory over Chelsea.

On Sunday, Villa won 1-0 at Stamford Bridge due to a 73rd-minute goal from Ollie Watkins. Chelsea, who saw Malo Gusto sent off, are 14th after gaining only five points from their first six league games of the season, while Unai Emery’s team is riding high in sixth.

Villa rebounded from their Europa Conference League defeat to Leiga Warsaw in Poland to increase the pressure on new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino. The home crowd let their feelings be known when the final whistle was met with a chorus of boos.

On The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker and former Villa player Micah Richards discussed the game. “Chelsea, another defeat at home,” remarked Match of the Day host Lineker. Well done, Aston Villa, a fantastic victory away from home, but they (Chelsea) can’t get a goal. They’ve spent more than a billion pounds!”

Richards compared Chelsea to a carbonated beverage. “I’m not sure what’s going on with Chelsea right now,” he stated. I was really excited about them when I first saw them at the start of the season. They were doing everything correctly.

“They have a positive manager who wants to play excellent football… but they don’t score enough goals.” Chelsea, they’re like a bubbly drink right now. They appear to be fantastic, and they taste amazing at first but soon fizzle out. It just flattens out.

“To spend a billion pounds and not have a true striker… We’ll give them that they’ve had injuries, but with what they’ve got on the pitch now, they should be doing well.
