This summer, Nottingham Forest were linked with a move for Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi. Barcelona is now interested in signing him as they aim to bolster their roster in January.
According to Sport, the Catalan giants are keeping tabs on the Nigerian’s progress. He’s had a good start to the Championship season with Leicester, who are now top of the table.
During 2023/24, the 26-year-old has three goals in ten appearances. He’s been a key member of the squad, and his form for the Foxes hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Throughout the summer, Ndidi was in contact with Forest. However, on transfer deadline day, the Reds signed number one midfield target Ibrahim Sangare while Ndidi remained unsigned.
Barcelona is interested in Forest-connected Ndidi.
This would be a bold step. Few defensive midfielders get the chance to leave the Championship for one of the world’s biggest clubs, Barcelona.
That is a possibility for Ndidi, who is now being monitored by Barcelona. The player’s contract expires next summer, and he might leave the Foxes for nothing.
Ndidi has been at Leicester since 2017, after joining from Genk in Belgium. With the Foxes, he won the FA Cup and the Community Shield while making 247 appearances.
Should the midfielder have been recruited by Forest?
To some extent, no. Once Sangare became a possibility, Ndidi’s chances of joining Leicester’s opponents across the East Midlands grew limited.
Sangare cost the club over £30 million and was the team’s main objective all summer. As a result, it appears that Ndidi was only evaluated as a backup option.
However, the man with 53 caps for his country is a talented player. Brendan Rodgers was a tremendous fan and referred to him as ‘amazing’ when he was in charge of Leicester.
