Blackburn Rovers manager Jon Dahl Tomasson is hoping Adam Wharton has not suffered any damage after leaving the game against Coventry City with a groyne niggle.
On Wednesday night, Blackburn Rovers suffered yet another defeat, losing 1-0 away to Coventry City. Haji Wright’s late header condemned the visitors to their fourth straight defeat and fifth loss in six games, dropping them to 20th in the rankings.
Tomasson and company did not leave without a new injury concern. Wharton, a midfield prodigy, was pulled off early in the second half after making his tenth Championship start of the season.
Following the game, an early report on his position has emerged.
According to Tomasson, who was quoted by the Lancashire Telegraph, Wharton complained of a tight groyne at halftime but returned to the play following the restart. The aim is that he was removed from the action before his niggle became a problem. He stated:
“At halftime, he mentioned feeling his groyne a little bit. It was a little chilly at halftime, and he complained it was getting tight.
“He could sense it, and hopefully we arrived on time with Adam.” We all know he’s a fantastic player.”
Wharton’s brilliance is well known at this stage. He’s one of the Championship’s most dynamic young players, and as a result, he’s become a fixture in Tomasson’s Blackburn Rovers lineup.
He has previously missed time due to injury, most notably in the second half of last season. As a result, it’s critical that the 19-year-old’s minutes are properly monitored, possibly even more so than in the early parts of the season.
Wharton is still a young player, and staying fit will be crucial to his progress. After starting nine consecutive Championship games and playing the entire 90 minutes in six of them, it may be prudent to move him in and out of the lineup more frequently.
