The future of C.J. Fiedorowicz’s career is the more urgent story today despite the fact that the Houston Texans suffered numerous injuries against the Tennessee Titans due to his third concussion of the year.
It would be an understatement to suggest that the Houston Texans have trouble keeping their players healthy. Throughout the game, we saw player after player head into the locker room with whatever condition that they were tending to.
Given the amount of room required to treat all the injured men we had on the field today, I started to wonder whether there was an overflow section. This clearly illustrates the difficult obstacles this squad has experienced this season and the reason they are in the situation they are.
It is known that Alfred Blue, Braxton Miller, Johnathan Joseph, and Bruce Ellington were all in the locker room at some point during the contest. Chris Thompson experienced a brief illness, but it had little impact on his ability to continue playing.
But C.J. Fiedorowicz’s injury is the one that should make you furrow your brow. I considered the fact that this was his third concussion of the season, and much more so of his career, as he made his way to the locker room. He suffered one late in the previous season after playing the Indianapolis Colts, and I’m worried that this could be very detrimental to his career.
Over the course of a year, that translates to FOUR concussions.
His propensity for concussions is reminiscent of retired wide receiver Austin Collie, who racked up concussions like they were reward points. Fiedorowicz will need to take some time to consider whether it is worthwhile for him to put his health at danger in order to pursue his passion.
Though it’s a really difficult choice, I believe he must make it.

The cap hit through the end of the 2020 season is approximately $5.5 million. It’s possible for both parties to reach a settlement on the injuries.
I have no doubt that he is thinking about this right now. What he needs to do going forward is as obvious as ever because I’m sure he wants to start a family of his own and be there for his immediate family.
I remember the first article I wrote about him when he was selected in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Iowa, describing what a huge asset he would be to this offense. The spark this team needed came from a big-time tight end who can block well, the likes of which haven’t been seen since Owen Daniels. In addition, Daniels didn’t necessarily match the bill either.
He and his following, I’m sure, need to hear this, but they also want to hear it. It’s just not worth it, according to all the studies being done on the damaging effects that repeated concussions can have on the brain’s ability to function.
