INJURY REPORT: Morris wants Jones and Gurley back for the Saints……

Raheem Morris, the interim head coach of the Falcons, is “hopeful” that running back Todd Gurley and wide receiver Julio Jones will be able to play in Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints at 1 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Morris stated on Monday, “I’m definitely hopeful for everybody to get back, particularly the guys that missed the game.” “See where they are at, and see if they can get ready for the Saints.”

The Falcons might also be without starting left guard James Carpenter, who was carted off the field in the Raiders’ 43-6 victory after suffering a groin injury. Additionally hurt against the Raiders were wide outs Olamide Zaccheaus (toe) and Calvin Ridley (foot/ankle). Zaccheaus did not re-enter the game; Ridley did.

“Carp’s situation came with a pre-existing groin injury,” Morris remarked. We’ll follow his progress. We’ll try our hand at working with carp.

On Wednesday, the first day this week that Carpenter must formally report an injury, Morris said he will have more information on Carpenter. In the Raiders game, Justin McCray replaced the Carpenter.

Morris remarked, “Justin has done a terrific job for us as a backup inside player in busy game conditions. He is capable of playing center, guard for us on either side, and tackle for us when he chooses to flex. He is readily seen everywhere. He gives us such excellent versatility that we feel completely at ease using him in each of those roles.

If Carpenter is unable to participate, McCray will need to defeat Matt Hennessy and Matt Gono in order to start against the Saints.

Morris stated, “You want the best five on the field at all times. “In that case, if Carp is unable to play this week, one of those guys will get the chance and opportunity to play. It depends on how the tournament goes, so you never know. There might be one or two males.
