Guard Isaiah Canaan of the Phoenix Suns sustains a horrific leg injury while driving to the basket.

In the Phoenix Suns’ game against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, guard Isaiah Canaan was driving to the hoop when he sustained a horrific left leg injury.

With a painful landing on his ankle, Canaan remained on the ground, his foot pointing in the wrong direction. Trainers hurried to him, and there were groans from the crowd and shocked expressions on his teammates’ faces.

According to Scott Bordow of azcentral.com, Canaan’s skin was displaying a bone protrusion.

Canaan was given a fractured ankle and fibula diagnosis as he was wheeled off the court on a stretcher. Canaan will undergo surgery on Thursday, according to Suns coach Jay Triano.

Canaan has played for the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Suns in his five-year NBA career. After being waived by Houston in October, he was signed on December 13.

On social media, Canaan received prayers and support from teammates and players from across the league:
