JUST IN: A key player suffers suspected compound fracture……

That’s all I have to say, but what a night.

Now that they must rebuild for their second-round playoff match, the Storm will probably be without players Xavier Coates and Ryan Papenhuyzen due to lower leg injuries.

The Broncos will take a week off to prepare for the preliminary finals after their clinical performance.

The complete match report is available here if you’d like to read it.

If not, I’ll return tomorrow to walk you through both of the championship games. Till then, have a good evening.

Papenhuyzen is thought to have a compound fracture.
Ryan Papenhuyzen is waiting to be taken to the hospital after leaving the field in the 72nd minute of the game with what appears to be a compound fracture to his right ankle.

An ambulance is en route to take the Storm flyer for scans, but medical personnel are still tending to him at Suncorp Stadium.

That’s bad news after being sidelined for 384 days due to a broken kneecap.

The Broncos defeat Storm 26-0, breaking a curse.
The Brisbane Broncos defeated the Storm 26-0 on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium, snapping a 14-year losing streak.

The home team put on an incredible display, and Kevin Walters’ team has secured their place in the preliminary finals, which will take place in two weeks.

For the entire 80 minutes, the Broncos dominated. Their attack was quick, and their defense was perfect.

Unfortunately for Craig Bellamy, he will need to deal with Xavier Coates and Ryan Papenhuyzen’s injuries in addition to a number of other issues before the Storm’s game the following week.

As play at Suncorp resumes, the Broncos score.
In Brisbane, the Broncos score another try as action picks back up.

Although it’s another outstanding play from Brisbane, you can’t help but feel that, despite adding points to the scoreboard, it doesn’t really matter.

That moment is a little bittersweet because of Papenhuyzen’s injury, and if the Storm were struggling earlier, they are undoubtedly struggling now.

Stretchered out of the field is Papenhuyzen.
Even though Suncorp Stadium is home to nearly 50,000 Broncos supporters, the atmosphere in the stadium has soured due to Ryan Papenhuyzen’s injury.

The crowd gave Papenhuyzen a standing ovation as he left the field on a stretcher, and not a single player or fan would wish this injury on him.

He receives a lot of support from both opponents and teammates, but nothing can comfort him as he walks off the field in tears at this point.
