New Orleans Saints coach sent disheartening messages to his players.

The New Orleans Saints will be playing a player involved a surprise deadline deal in their debut. The Saints need to make sure he doesn’t wreck the game.

It wasn’t much of a surprise that the Washington Commanders dealt defensive end Montez Sweat at the trade deadline. However, it was surprising that the Chicago Bears were the ones buying for the price of a second round pick. Now, the New Orleans Saints will be the ones to deal with him in his debut. The Saints need to make sure they focus on keeping him in check.

While the Saints SHOULD have no issues with the Bears, we do need to have a bit of a chat about the offensive line. Make no mistake, the offensive line of the Saints has improved in recent weeks, but they are still a work in progress.

While the Commanders also trading Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers (for a third round pick) got more fanfare, Sweat is no one to sneeze at. His 6.5 sacks to this point are good enough for seventh in the league with Haason, Reddick, Leonard Floyd, Max Crosby and Justin Madubuike. That isn’t exactly bad company.

Now, the 26th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft will be fired up to add to that total with his new team.

That quest starts against the Saints, and they need to make sure their offensive line is ready, so it doesn’t derail the momentum the offense has been building.

At the end of the day, the New Orleans Saints are in a great spot to make some noise in the NFC South, and NFC for that matter. They have a great opportunity against a perceived weak opponent in the Chicago Bears, but they have to make sure they contain a fired up Montez Sweat.
