Sabres Injured Player to be out for 10 months

Cozens, Samuelsson, and Comrie participated in Thursday’s practice

The Buffalo Sabres practiced at Key Bank Center on Thursday in advance of back-to-back games against the Minnesota Wild and Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday and Saturday and had a number of players on their injured list on the ice and inching closer to returning to the lineup.

Center Dylan Cozens, who suffered a broken nose at the hands of Philadelphia’s Garnet Hathaway on November 3, was wearing a yellow non-contact jersey and skating as an extra forward wearing a full face shield.

Defenseman Mattias Samuelsson, who was placed on injured reserve on November 4 with a lower-body injury, skated with extra defenseman Jacob Bryson but is not eligible to come off IR until next Tuesday.

Goalie Eric Comrie, who left in the second period of a 5-4 loss in New Jersey with a lower-body injury on October 27, took part in on-ice activities for the first time in nearly two weeks. The 28-year-old was injured for two long stretches last season and said that he felt fortunate to avoid any lengthy layoff.

“Luckily it wasn’t too bad. It wasn’t like last year’s (injury), where it was month-to-month. This year, it was just really quick and right back into it, so it wasn’t too bad.” Comrie said. “I’d like a couple more practices. I definitely need to get back into the rhythm of things, get back into the swing of things, but I feel like I’m getting closer every single time I go on the ice.”

Head coach Don Granato provided no update on injured winger Jack Quinn, other than he is currently building muscle and mobility in the leg he suffered an injured Achilles on in June and that there is no timetable for his return.
