In the aftermath of ‘ injury, the Packers sign an ex-1,000-yard rusher.

Following the injury to star running back Aaron Jones, the Green Bay Packers are fielding a backup team.

ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported on Monday that the Packers have signed veteran rusher James Robinson. Robinson, 25, will join Green Bay’s practice squad but could be promoted for Thursday’s game against the Detroit Lions.
Robinson, who ran for 1,070 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020, is already acquainted with the Packers’ offense. He spent a few weeks on their practice squad earlier this season (late October to early November) before being released.

Green Bay now has a need at running back after former Pro Bowler Jones was carted off with a knee injury during the Packers’ win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. While Jones appears to have avoided a major injury, the Packers need more depth behind AJ Dillon (who is currently dealing with his own groin issue). Robinson has yet to regain his pre-Achilles tear form, but with Green Bay’s overall offensive struggles this season, they can certainly do worse than him.

Green Bay Packers' Matt LaFleur Speaks Out on Aaron Jones' Troubling Injury: 'Certainly Looked Bad'

On Monday, AJ Dillon discussed the Packers’ depleted running back corps with RotoWire (via CBS Sports).

“It’s that next-man-up mentality, as everyone always says, and you’ve always got to be prepared, be ready when your number’s called.” So that’s what I try to do,’ said AJ Dillon. Due to a groin injury, he was limited in the Packers’ practice on Monday.

AJ Dillon, Aaron Jones, and Emanuel Wilson are all injured ahead of the team’s Week 12 game against the Detroit Lions.

Fortunately for Dillon, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur did not bench him in Week 11’s 23-20 win over the Los Angeles Chargers due to injury.

On Monday, Green Bay signed Patrick Taylor to bolster their running back depth chart. Taylor recently spent time on the practice squad of the New England Patriots.

AJ Dillon is in his fourth season with the Green Bay Packers. Last summer, he told Green Bay’s WFRV Local 5 that wearing Packers green and gold “means everything.”

Through 11 weeks, the Packers have a 4-6 win-loss record. Can they end their four-game losing streak on Thanksgiving Day against the Lions? Keep an eye out.
