Heartfelt News to Sabres

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Sabres will be without Tage Thompson for a month if not longer after their top center had a shot go off his left wrist.

Coach Don Granato didn’t reveal the exact nature of the injury in providing the update following practice Wednesday. Thompson was injured a day earlier when he blocked Boston defenseman Charlie McAvoy’s shot midway through the second period of a 5-2 loss to the Bruins.

“Less than a couple of months is what’s expected,” Granato said. “It’s more week-to-week. I don’t have a targeted date for him yet.”

Thompson entered the game tied for second on the team with both six goals and 12 points. He has topped 37 goals in each of the past two seasons, and he is coming off a year in which he posted career-best numbers with 47 goals and 94 points.

The Sabres (7-8-1) have lost two straight and open a three-game road trip at Winnipeg on Friday night.

Each day, things in Bills land always appears to get better and better.

Sabres country is… not quite the same.

Buffalo has two top-level professional sports teams trending in different directions. The Sabres, who recently held the No. 1 overall pick at the recent NHL draft, were dealt another bad blow.

After opting not to trade him before his contract expired, goalie Linus Ullmark eventually departed the club anyway. With the free-agent market opening in hockey, Ullmark skipped town to the Boston Bruins.

A former draft pick that grew his game with the Sabres moves to a rival… ouch.

But evidently that does not mean Ullmark doesn’t feel for hockey fans, and members of Bills Mafia that support the Sabres as well. Heck, sounds like he’s still in Bills Mafia even though he’s moving into Patriots territory.

After the news surface, Ullmark took to his social media account via Instagram and posted a goodbye message to Western New York. While he’s going to an area that folks in Buffalo don’t like much (sports wise, at least), Ullmark might still keep his hand in Buffalo sports in one way.

Go Bills, says Ullmark.

After thanking the Sabres organization, the fans, and reminiscing on the good times, Ullmark showed he’s still a true Buffalonian. He ended his message with “Go Bills.” something only a true western New Yorker would do.
