Inter Milan see West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca as “just right” in profile compared to other targets for the striker position.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who detail the Nerazzurri’s rationale for deciding to move for the 24-year-old rather than possible other attacking options.
Inter have looked at a few different targets in the striker position following the collapse of their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku.
On the one hand, there has been Arsenal-owned striker Folarin Balogun. The Nerazzurri directors certainly rate the 22-year-old US international’s talents very highly.
Then, there has been Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata. Reports suggest that Simone Inzaghi is a fan of the veteran Spanish international considering his experience and reliability.
Inzaghi’s priority has been for the club to bring in a physical striker. He doesn’t just want goals and technical ability – the coach wants holdup play.
For this reason, Inzaghi has pushed for Morata, who would certainly be a capable reference point in attack.
But Scamacca, Tuttosport, is an option that both Inter’s directors and Inzaghi can agree upon.
Inter Milan See Gianluca Scamacca As “Just Right” To Reinforce The Attack
Like Morata, Scamacca is a tall, strong centre-forward who can link up well with teammates.
This meets Inzaghi’s demand to have an out-and-out Number Nine in the squad.
But compared to former Juventus, Chelsea, and Real Madrid striker Morata, the West Ham star would not command wages as high as €5 million net per season.
Moreover, Scamacca could arrive for a fee of around €30 million. The ex-Sassuolo striker would be able to contribute for several years to come rather than in the short term. He would also have more resale value than Morata.
Therefore, Tuttosport note, the Italian international is “just right” for Inter at this moment in time.
Scamacca may have started out as only Inter’s third- or fourth-choice target.
