Oklahoma Sooner Have extended his contract with Oklahoma

The Cowboys are looking to add to their defense and take away from their rival in one move.

Oklahoma State is looking to take from an in-state rival with its latest transfer portal offer.

The Cowboys have offered former Oklahoma defensive lineman Reggie Grimes II. Grimes entered the transfer portal earlier this month after four seasons in Norman.

Grimes’ time with the Sooners came to an end after his playing time was significantly depleted in 2023. He saw the field only four times this season, recording two tackles.

OU’s depth in his position led to him not seeing any action past September, preserving Grimes’ redshirt. His lack of action paved the way for him to have two seasons of eligibility at his new school.

While his final season at OU was not ideal, his career in Norman is one for OSU and others to be intrigued about. In 2022, Grimes played in every game and started 10 of 13.

He finished the 2022 season with 18 total tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss. He was a force to be reckoned with in the backfield.

Grimes had 4.5 sacks that season, also forcing a fumble and registering a pass breakup. Before that, he had another 13-game season in OU’s 2021 season that ended a win away from making the Big 12 Championship.

Grimes forced two fumbles that season, one against Tulane and another against Kansas State. The former Sooner had 18 tackles in 2021 as well, despite starting just five games.

Before going to OU, Grimes was a four-star prospect out of Tennessee and was ranked the No. 31 player in the country by ESPN. He finished his time at OU with 38 games played, starting 15.

OSU could use Grimes along the defensive front, adding to the physicality of Bryan Nardo’s unit. It could also be a feeling of revenge after the Sooners took former Cowboy Trace Ford in the transfer portal last year.
