The Jays are the ‘favourites’ to get….

We are less than a week until Christmas. This means it is getting close to time to go shopping if you are like me.

And, a week before Christmas (or a week before Boxing Day) and we are still waiting for the Jays to make a move. Maybe they are waiting for Boxing Day prices.

Bob Nightengale tells us that the Jays are the ‘favourites’ to get Cody Bellinger. A study that someone should do is to check the percentage of times that the favourites to sign someone end up signing the player.

It looks like Bellinger will get a contract worth $200 million, which seems like a lot of money for him.

A couple of Jays players got a nice cheque from the pre-arbitration bonus pool:

  • Davis Schneider: $265,673
  • Alejandro Kirk: $250,917

And Gabe Moreno got $387,148.

Julio Rodríguez was the big winner at $1,865,349

And, apparently, the Jays are interested in trading for Jonathan India, for reasons that elude me at the moment. India hit .244/.338/.407 with 17 home runs last year, playing mostly second base. He isn’t great defensively. Personally, I’d go with Schneider and Cavan Biggio at second. He’s 27 and won the Rookie of the Year in 2021 (with a 4.1 bWAR and a .269/.376/.459 line with 21 home runs).

I’m not excited about the idea.
