The Dallas Cowboys were on a five-game winning streak and appeared to be a Super Bowl contender heading into this past weekend.
They traveled to New York to play the Buffalo Bills, a talented club that has had difficulty performing to its fullest capacity throughout the season.
The Cowboys fell badly, 31-10, and their hopes of taking first place in the league and winning the NFC East were severely damaged, as opposed to continuing their winning run.
According to pass rusher Micah Parsons, there is a national desire for Dallas to lose, but David Helman stated on FS1’s “Speak” that the main reason is because large headlines and fan excitement around the Cowboys generate revenue.
The Cowboys have been known as “America’s Team” for a number of years. Although they may have the largest fan base in the league, they also have a large number of detractors who like it when the team loses.
Quarterback Dak Prescott, maybe the overwhelming favorite to earn the MVP award for the regular season, was unable to complete a touchdown pass against Buffalo on Sunday.
Consequently, he has lagged behind other players in the MVP standings and now appears to be a long shot to win the trophy.
The constant narrative about Prescott underperforming at pivotal moments was reignited after Sunday’s game, and it is something the Cowboys and their supporters will have to deal with for the remainder of the winter.
Although there is still a chance for the club to make it to the Super Bowl, it is unlikely that it will win the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the first time since the 1995 campaign.
