‘Completed medical’: Fabrizio Romano says City are selling player today, they can buy him back for £57m

Manchester City are selling James Trafford to Burnley – and the club will have the chance to bring him back to the Etihad.

The 20-year-old will sign for Vincent Kompany’s side having already completed a medical.

It is expected that confirmation of the move will arrive very soon.

Trafford has never played for City’s first-team.

But he did spend last term out on loan with Bolton Wanderers where he really caught the eye.

Before that, he had a spell on loan at Accrington Stanley.

Despite only gaining experience in the EFL, City are about to make a pretty penny on Trafford – and the club have apparently agreed a clause to re-sign him in the future.

Man City have negotiated buyback clause on James Trafford

According to Fabrizio Romano, City will have the chance to buy Trafford back from Burnley in the future.

The fee City have agreed with Burnley for the sale of Trafford is an initial £14 million, plus a further £5 million in add-ons.

If City want to re-sign Trafford, they can do so for around £57 million (three times that initial transfer fee).

The player will sign his contract with Burnley today. Potentially, an announcement of the move could arrive later or even tomorrow.

City are smart to include a buyback clause on Trafford, as he prepares to depart

City clearly feel that Trafford is going to become a top, top goalkeeper.

And we have already seen his fantastic potential on show, both at Bolton and with the England U21s recently at the Euros to Georgia.

Trafford looks to be a wonderful modern-day ‘keeper. He is really good with the ball at his feet and he is going to make a really good signing for Kompany and Burnley, who are a possession football side.

It is smart of City to negotiate a buyback on Trafford, who is said to have an extremely strong mentality.

Ederson is seemingly not about to leave the Etihad in a hurry. But it’s nice to have that clause in place over Trafford all the same.
