‘Massive potential’: Mauricio Pochettino says he’s really excited about 22-year-old Chelsea youngster already

Mauricio Pochettino has spoken very highly about Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk during a press conference this week.

Mykhailo Mudryk, who’s just 22, is currently training with the Blues squad that has flown out to the United States for their pre-season tour.

The left-winger has endured a tough start to his Chelsea career since joining in January, which has not been helped by the kind of pressure his £88.5million (Sky Sports) transfer brings.

However, none of the Blues stars covered themselves in glory last season, and it’s a clean slate for them all this summer under the new head coach.

It certainly sounds like he’s made a positive impression on his new boss so far

Speaking ahead of his first Chelsea game in charge against Wrexham, Pochettino has singled out Mudryk as a Chelsea player with “massive potential”.

“I spoke with all the players, a lot, Mudryk also because he was in Barcelona for a few days and we exchanged messages,” Pochettino said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“We spoke in the last few days and I’ve found a really good kid. He is still young with a massive potential. The most important thing is that we need to earn the trust and confidence in us.

“We are building the relationship with him and with different players.”

We can’t wait to see if Pochettino can help unlock Mudryk’s true potential in Chelsea colours.

The left-winger has lightning pace that will frighten any defender, so it’s just about working on his all-round game and integrating him into the Blues starting line-up.

It’s certainly a good thing that Pochettino’s teams historically do thrive with wingers in the system.

Frank Lampard, who coached the Ukraine international for a brief time last season, recently told Steven Bartlett’s ‘Diary of a CEO’ podcast that Mudryk can be a really important player for Chelsea moving forward.

Let’s wait and see how the speedster fares in this summer’s pre-season warm-up games before the Premier League opener against Liverpool. If he plays as well as he can do, we definitely picture a spot for him in the XI.
