‘Outstanding’ Newcastle player not ruling out transfer exit this summer

Naturally, the focus at Newcastle United this summer has been on incomings.

Sandro Tonali has been signed and Harvey Barnes could well be on his way after some frustration for Newcastle in the transfer market.

Still, it’s not all about arrivals this summer.

With FFP looming large, the club do need to move players on, as Eddie Howe confirmed when news of Allan Saint-Maximin’s likely move to Saudi Arabia broke on Tuesday.

The Frenchman now looks set to depart and may not be the only previously key player at the club leaving.

Martin Dubravka not ruling out move away from Newcastle this summer

Indeed, that brings us to Martin Dubravka.

Newcastle’s No.1 under Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce, the 34-year-old lost his starting berth following the arrival of Nick Pope last summer.

The Slovakian international even spent time on loan at Manchester United last season but is now back at St James’ Park.

Still, it might not be for the long-term.

According to BBC Sport journalist Harry De Cosemo, Dubravka is “not stressed” about his future at the club and sources close to the player are not ruling out a potential exit later in the window.

That’s quite the U-turn

Though few would begrudge a goalkeeper previously hailed as “outstanding” by Howe himself looking for more regular first-team football, it would be quite the departure from his previous comments.

Only last month, Dubravka stressed he was happy on Tyneside and spoke of his attachment to the club.

Clearly, things can change at a rather rapid pace in football but that would be a U-turn.

Luckily, Loris Karius is highly-rated by Howe and recently penned a new contract with Newcastle, so at least there would be some competent cover behind Pope were Dubravka to follow Saint-Maximin through the exit door this summer.
