Wolves ‘closing in’ on Alex Scott as West Ham transfer stance revealed

Wolves are ‘closing in’ on the £25m signing of Alex Scott according to reports – with Bournemouth, Spurs and West Ham set to miss out.

West Ham have yet to make an approach to Bristol City for Alex Scott, according to a report from a reputable source. The Athletic say that so far the Hammers have not made an effort for him, as well as Harvey Barnes or James Ward-Promise. Last month it was reported by the Evening Standard that the Europa Conference League winners had held ‘initial talks’ with Scott’s representatives about a move to the London Stadium

West Ham however are were focused on trying to sign Joao Palhinha from their Premier League rivals Fulham, as they seek a replacement for Declan Rice who joined Arsenal. A bid of £45m was reportedly rejected, and Palhinha was considered their number one target. He like Scott is a midfielder but is considerably older and has top-tier experience under his belt. The Athletic report they are now set to look to alternative targets like Edson Alvarez from Ajax, and lower down the shortlist could be Scott, though they will have to get a move on if they are serious about signing him.

It looks like Wolves however are set to win the race if some transfer reports are to go by, with Football Insider claiming they are ‘closing in on a deal’ for the 19-year-old. Wolves have already had two offers, one of £18m and one of £22m rejected. AFC Bournemouth had an opening offer of £15m turned down, and were said to be considering another offer, but will have to act quickly if Wolves are feeling confident.

A move to Molineux could see Scott reunite with Dan Bentley, who made the move to the Midlands club in January. Scott is under contract until the summer of 2025, and is considered the clubs prized asset. Bristol City have already signed two midfielders Jason Knight and Ross McCrorie, though Nigel Pearson stressed that any midfield reinforcements should not be viewed as Scott replacements, but instead new teammates of his.

Scott featured for Bristol City yesterday in the first of two hour-long matches with League Two outfit Swindon Town. He was subject to a few rough challenges, but delivered a good performance, though was unlucky not to score.
