Ex-Aberdeen winger Ryan Fraser brutally axed from Newcastle United USA tour

The Scotland international’s days on Tyneside look numbered after Eddie Howe opted not to take the former Pittodrie star to the United States for their pre-season fixtures.

Ryan Fraser’s Newcastle United career looks to be over after the Scotland and former Aberdeen winger was brutally left out of the club’s pre-season tour in the USA.

The 29-year-old is one of three first-team players left behind by the Magpies as Eddie Howe’s 34-man squad arrived in Atlanta on Wednesday (July 19), with Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick also omitted.

Fraser’s exclusion gave the clearest indication yet that he could well be on his way out at St James’ Park, as the Aberdonian’s woes under Howe continue.

A fall-out with the manager saw him banished to the Under-21s, and he hasn’t kicked a ball for the Premier League side since October’s 1-0 win over Everton, while also falling out of favour with Steve Clarke and the Scotland camp.

Howe has yet to address Fraser’s situation having previously explained his decision to axe him from his first-team squad back in March.

He said at the time: “I made the decision to concentrate on players that are committed to Newcastle. For the benefit of the group, I’ve made that call.”

Asked if Fraser had a future at the club, Howe added: “I think that’s a difficult one for me to answer, because I’d never put a firm decision on that, because life and football can change quickly, but, I’d say at the moment, no he doesn’t.”

Fraser could be offered an escape route from Newcastle by Leeds United, with Southampton, Everton and former club Bournemouth also linked.

However, the winger’s salary could prove to be a major stumbling block, and he would be forced to take a significant wage cut should a move elsewhere come to fruition.
