Tottenham Hotspur could yet sign both Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s back line.
Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba may yet end up at Tottenham Hotspur together if sales are made.
That is according to Football London, who claim that Spurs have not ruled out signing both players.
Tottenham have been chasing Wolfsburg ace Van de Ven and Bayer Leverkusen centre back Tapsoba in recent weeks.
Fabrizio Romano indicated earlier in July that Tottenham’s plan was to sign just one of them rather than both.
However, Football London now suggest that Tottenham have not ruled out signing both players in a huge double move.
This would though depend on Tottenham selling players to raise funds, especially in defence.
Three centre backs – Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga – are available for transfer as Spurs look to revamp their back line.
If Spurs can sell all three, they could push to bring both Tapsoba and Van de Ven to North London.
Tottenham could massively boost their defence by signing Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba
Tottenham are moving to a back four under Ange Postecoglou after spending the Antonio Conte era in a back three.
The lack of quality defenders in the Spurs ranks was somewhat exposed against West Ham United on Tuesday as they lost 3-2 to West Ham.
Tottenham need to overhaul their defence and moves for both Tapsoba and Van de Ven could be ideal.
Let’s start with Tapsoba, who has been hailed as a ‘fantastic’ player by Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes.
The Burkina Faso international has been outstanding in the Bundesliga, showing impressive ability to carry the ball out from the back.
That could appeal to Postecoglou with Tapsoba also a big presence at 6ft 4in tall.
Van de Ven is a little more raw but offers what many managers now want – a natural left-footer at centre back.
The Dutchman is another huge presence and has blazing speed, bringing some balance to the Spurs back line.
If Tottenham went into the new season with Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Tapsoba and Van de Ven as their four main centre backs, Spurs fans would feel much, much better about their back line.
