Liverpool legend Stevie Nicol ‘can’t believe’ that Daniel Levy has reportedly ordered Harry Kane to be sold this summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.
The 29-year-old has 12 months left on his contract and there are strong suggestions that he wants to join German giants, Bayern Munich.
Others have also knocked on the door, such as Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, but would Daniel Levy sell to another English club? Many think not.
Well, now it seems as though if Harry Kane doesn’t sign a new contract at Tottenham, then he will go, no matter what, as reported by The Telegraph.
That’s a pretty big and clear call from the powers that be at Hotspur Way, but Nicol isn’t having any of it, as he told ESPN.
The former Liverpool defender was even told that the ultimatum to Kane has come from the man higher up to Levy – owner Joe Lewis – but Nicol still isn’t accepting that it’s true.
“I will be honest,” said Nicol. “I can’t actually believe that anyone believes that Levy said that. This is a guy that doesn’t show his cards. This is a guy who always tried to be in charge of the whole situation. A guy who never speaks.
“But all of sudden when he does speak, it’s that. No chance. I just don’t believe it. He has completely put himself in a corner. He has put himself against the wall by saying ‘well, if he doesn’t sign, then we are selling him’.
“Why would he do that? He has never come close to him in his life.
On it coming higher up than Levy: “I don’t believe it. I am sorry.”
Kane’s situation needs to be resolved quickly
If the England captain stays, then it makes Ange Postecoglou’s life a lot easier, but if he’s going to leave, then he needs him out of the door as soon as possible.
Kane is never going to be replaced at Spurs, but at the very least, Postecoglou needs to be given money to try and rebuild after the striker’s exit.
You aren’t going to do much if he leaves with only a few days left until the window slams shut.
